The hommage to Thambar
「花影」60mm F2.2

2012.1.29

Thambar is a lens of the magic which makes an object emerge.

"Thambar" is the soft focus lens of 90mmF2.2 which the Ernst Laitz company developed to Leica cameras in the 1930s. (A lower photograph is real Thambar) It is said that it was a price level to the extent that he can buy a house also with a standard of Japan one affair, and the total number of production was a little more than 3000 since it was very expensive.

the present since there are very few numbers -- a large sum -- about 500,000 yen -- from -- it is to what exceeds 1 million yen depending on a state. Thus, Thambar had not been treasured because there was only few production. It was also the big cause that there was no lens which inherited the design concept in the peculiar method of dotage and future generations. This " if he wanted to obtain effect ", he could not but buy Thambar.

Design of Thambar

Do you turn a camera to a friend or a thing to take a picture of, when it has a photograph taken? Is anything between the subject and lens then? Although something may be, in almost all cases, there is only air. However, some are back various. Back, something is always. Then, the lens of much soft focus is made so that it may fade from an object finely to back. The flare comes out of Thambar finely toward a front conversely. What is the matter and did it make to such a wind? Click a woman's photograph and try to expand it.

The geisha girl of Naha whom Kimura Ihei photoed

It is the masterpiece "geisha girl of Naha" photoed when the photographer and Kimura Ihei which will represent Japan in the 1930s traveled Okinawa. Although the focus in the hit of a face, it is reflected softly and in detail. Please also check the hit of hair or a kimono. Please also check fading finely towards the direction of the front shoulder. How is a background? Since the focus is not correct, to be sure, it is fading, but it is not beautiful. However, to because of that of this individuality, the object has emerged beautifully. If reverse, and if it seems to be a present-day soft focus lens, please imagine how it was. This feature is the effect which a feeling of art of the Max Berek which designed many beautiful Leica lenses drew.

Such a lens is made according to the field angle of a present age digital camera.(Can be use camera list)Although almost all Mirror-Less camera can be equipped using an adapter, 60mm, 75mm,90mm and 120 mm become considerable with a camera. Original Thambar will be 90mm, and since the field angle of this neighborhood is a field angle suitable for a portrait, its 60~120mm may be easy-to-use.

A point important when copying Thambar

The name of a this lens is made into the name of "花影" (Flower Shadow) which covered from the poetry of 蘇東坡. I think that I will make it what also has a red.

What are you expected to call it "Flower Shadow"? It seldom admires. It is not so beautiful even if it takes the photograph of Flower Shadow to it. What? Such a thing cannot be found? And it is the shadow made with the light of the moon. If people step on solemnly, it will confuse and be fragrant so that the water which flows completely may sway green grass.. It has joked too much and is hard to say not at all. Although it is foppish, can the refined photograph of such an atmosphere be taken with this lens........
